From what I remember, what was fun about the Legend of Valour when it arrived in the early 90s, was the ability to create the characters. This was very important in this particular game because the way non playing characters in the game received you depended a lot on how you looked. It is a gi-normous world filled with a ridiculous amount of people and you have the ability to join guilds and many other different activities. If I recall correctly, there wasn't much plot; it revolved around the opening.
You walk into a pub and there is a letter left for you from your friend Sven - which sets you off on this quest for Valour in this medieval city.
The game will not begin until after you enter the code from the manual, which you cleverly have to look up a page number. It gives you the line number and word number and you have to type it in. A smart thing to do is to make sure you don’t misplace that manual and be sure it comes with your download. Following this bit of copyright protection, it then lets you create that character and edit different features of the person. You go out into the town after receiving
the letter from your friend Sven and wander about, get incredibly lost, talk to tons of different people, buy a house, pick up items, all in an effort to complete the quest spawned by Sven's letter.
There is a large, intriguing castle and endless walls which mark the perimeters of the territory, which is not to suggest that the scape is small. There are houses to walk into and explore everywhere as well as establishments. It is pretty much for the most part a completely functioning town. Everyone goes about their business and tries to stay out of trouble though the character you make always seems to find trouble. I remember trying to find a specific house again, and wandering around for ages.
Remember that when I was rather young, I kept playing this game over and over again each night. I was simply stuck at the computer screen. However, look at how much I remember! That has to be saying something about my experience of it! There has to be a reason why I remember so much of this game and played it for weeks on end. I loved creating the characters and joining different guilds and trying to find all these different letters from Sven which he left scattered about the town. This game had fun graphics and the concept was interesting and for some reason appealing. I say it is definitely worth a revisiting if your memories of it are fond.
