Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring is the first in a series of games based on the books by Tolkien and movies based on the books. The commands in this version are a little hard to understand at first, but once you get the hang of it, you almost have it made. Surprisingly enough, even though the game was based on the novel, it does not follow the story line like you would expect it to. In a way that can be a good thing because it adds more creativity and a sense of adventure to the game.
It can be bad in a way because sometimes you expect a game to follow the story line perfectly of the book or movie that it was created after.
In this game (which I will remind you came out before the movie) you have three characters you can choose from, Gandalf the wizard, Frodo Boggins the hobbit, and Aragorn the strider. Of course each character has their own individual weapons (which vary throughout the game) and their own way of fighting. Frodo ends up using three different melee weapons during the game. He starts with a walking stick, then a dagger that he gets from the Barrow Downs, and then a small sword (called sting) that is given to him by Bilbo.

Frodo also has the ability to pick up various items and use them. For example, he can pick up stones and launch them in ranged attacks as well as being able to use the power in the ring for invisibility.
You also run into many different enemies in this game as well. You have the black warg, bees, spiders, cave trolls, ruffians, wolves, orcs, goblins, and the uruk-hai. All of which are very ugly and have individual way of fighting and trying to kill you. You also have to fight “bosses” in this game. They are the old Barrow-Wight, the Fell Beast, Harry Goatleaf, Bill Ferny, Old Man Willow, Nazgul, Balrog, and of course The Watcher in the Water. These bosses are harder to beat than the enemies during the battles as they are much stronger.
The sound is great because there are very good voiceovers by some famous and some not so famous people. Steve Staley does the voices of Frodo and Celeborn, Daran Norris does Aragorn and Tom Bombadil, Tom Kane does Gandalf, Jim Piddock does the voices of Bilbo and Eldron, and there are plenty more. The game was great for when it came out with both sound and decent graphics. The game play was also pretty good once you got the hang of it.
