Game Review (written by Barfjohnson) Added on: 11/06/2006
I recall playing this game as a child when my uncle gave me my first computer. Along with the Apple IIe, he gave me hundreds and hundreds of disks and maDe a few suggestions. His immediate suggestion was a game called "Phantasie". Upon playing the game for the very first time I instantly got seduced by the awesome game play.
The game play is really fun is you like traditional RPGs such as wizardry, bards tale etc. Phantasie is a classic game that lets you select a bunch of different types of races for you heroes.
You do so at a guild within the town. One of the best features I like about the game is that if your character is fallen in battle, you must go to the guild to start a whole new character. It is a more realistic feature as compared to a lot of the more modern RPGs.
Part of the challenge in the game is making your way around the map in efforts to find exactly what is on it. In most video games your map is already fully visible for you so that you can already view your entire world, in "phantasie" you must first travel into the darkness (non-viewable) parts of the map to make them visible.
The Sounds and visuals in the game are also very good for that of its time. The turn based battle systems works out very well. Another good part is that once you complete the first phantasie game, the second one is available to play with just about twice as much game play as the first game.
It’s been quite some time since I have played all of these games but I’m also sure that you can port one of your characters from one game to the next. There aren’t too many games that offer such a cool feature like that. Phantasie is definitely a really good game that I am looking forward to playing again, after beating the game I’m going to continue my game and also complete the second and third instalments.
I think the biggest perk in going to be creating my characters all over again from the beginning and making them really strong. The randomized statistics to start is really cool, so that you can keep changing it so that your character starts with a decent amount of strength or any other attribute you make be interested in. This is truly going to be a good experience which is going to bring back a boat load of great memories.
