The World of Xeen is an add on game that is available for the Might and Magic series of games. There are two Xeen games in the Might and Magic franchise: Might and Magic IV: Clouds of Xeen and Might and Magic V: The Dark Side of Xeen. Both of them are from the early nineties and came at the end of the franchise’s run. New World Computing came up with an idea to merge the games and by using the World of Xeen, this is possible.
Installing the add-on will create one large “World of Xeen” for the user to play, combining the previous games with some new business from WoX.
The first thing made possible by World of Xeen is not a new concept, but it is still notable and fun. The gamer is able to import characters from previous installments of the game. This is always great in a role playing adventure because, after many hours of fighting monsters, leveling up, finding the coolest sword and pretty much developing a hero worship for your hero…you have to give him up because the game is over.
The second thing made possible in this game is the unusual ability to jump back and forth between
the worlds of the two previously listed games. All of the missions and quests are there and the user can now go about them in about any order he wishes, so long as he has attained the appropriate items and so forth. This can really help the gamer to utilize his character’s abilities to their fullest, because there is always something he is capable of doing to earn more money or experience. On top of all that good fun, there has been another main mission and several pretty interesting side quests added to make certain that there is a fresh look about the game.
The basic story of the game sees the user’s character being visited in a dream by King Burlock’s former chief adviser, Crodo, who has been imprisoned by the classic power hungry baddie that took his place. Roland, Crodo’s usurper, has inspired King Burlock to no good ends and the kingdom is broke. Much of the revenue has been spent seeking the Sixth Mirror for Roland’s own use. You will have to find Crodo and help him escape, then set the kingdom to rights before it is irreparably damaged and hopeless.
This is a good game and a good idea that does a nice job blending two established games into something a little different. Adding more quests was nice to keep it fresh. Overall, good game!
