Zeliard is a platform video game that was published by Game Arts in 1987. It was first published in Japan but was later released in Europe and North America by Sierra Entertainment in 1990.
The game will have you playing the role of Duke Garland a knight from the Kingdom of Zeliard. As Duke, you will be travelling through the different towns and overcome different challenges and obstacles until you reach the end of the level where you have to face a boss. Your main goal is to save the princess and the kingdom from the evil Jashiin.
Jashiin, the Emperor of Chaos has just woken up from a 2000-year sleep and has unleashed his evil on the Kingdom of Zeliard as revenge on the ancient rulers of the land. Jashiin has caused rain to pour on the kingdom for 117 days and then causing a draught throughout the lands. He has also turned the princess of the kingdom into a stone. To defeat Jashiin, you must collect all the nine tears of Esmesanti. The nine tears are held by the bosses at the end of each level and by Jashiin at the end of the game.
As you go through the game you will be able to collect diamonds that you can take to the bank to be exchanged for gold. Gold is what you will use to weapons and magic that will make Duke stronger and better equipped to face enemies.
In the towns there are different facilities available for Duke to use such as the bank and other facilities where he can have his transactions to buy weapons and others. It’s not easy travelling through the towns as there are also labyrinth mazes that you have to go through. The labyrinth area is where Duke has to face different types of enemies and slay them. This adds to the challenge and the depth of the game.
Aside from diamonds, there are items that you need to find in the course of the game to help you move forward. The items that you need to collect will be revealed to you as you move on with the game. Sometimes it will take you a long time to find the items that you need and it can really be frustrating but the fun and entertainment this game provides more than make up for the few disappointing portions of the game.
This is a great platformer that is worth a try.
