Game Review (written by Chrissi) Added on: 11/23/2007
688 Attack Sub is a submarine simulation where you are put in the command of a submarine. There are two submarines that you can take control of. The first one would be the American Los Angeles and the second one is the Soviet Alfa. They are both nuclear powered submarines. There are ten missions for each submarine where the scenario is taking place in the Cold War.
The graphics have been done really well with this game. The sonar’s and periscopes have been done in a nice VGA graphical format, which goes over the top for realism.
Both submarines have their own graphical details done to them. For example the Soviet submarine has some pseudo Cyrillic labels on it.
The game does offer a multiplayer addition to it. You are able to play over the modem while you and a friend compete both choosing a side to take. There are numerous aspects to this game that does allow it to become a great submarine simulation. Everything has been done as realistic as they could. A few of these things are the sonar, weapons, and the navigation system. It does become a lot of fun once you determine all the aspects of the game and get going like a pro.
688 Attack Sub has great combat simulation included into it. With the vast amount of weaponry to use, there is no possible way you won’t get excited to see your enemy ship blow up into nothingness. This game has been so well designed in so many ways it’s hard to think you will want to ever stop playing. Each level for each side you play on varies in a few ways. With the difference between both teams you will want to attempt taking control of both of the submarines to get the full feel of this game. With the ability to play as either submarine there is endless hours of fun combat that will lead to years of exciting moments.
688 Attack Sub is by far one of the most entertaining, thrilling submarine simulations I’ve ever seen. With the great graphical details and the amount of thought that went into the development of this game, you can only imagine what it is like. Once you get playing this game you’ll find yourself hooked for life. Every time you play it will be different since there are so many different choices to make and tons of strategic decisions to further you along in the Cold War. 688 Attack Sub is a number one submarine game and will definitely have you playing on the edge of your seat.
