I remember playing this game when I was a kid. I was at a computer show and I had just watched Memphis Belle and I saw this game and instantly wanted it. The first computer that I put it on did not run it so well but the second computer we got smoothed out all the graphics. My favorite part was being the top turret gunner and shooting down Luftwaffe planes. Of course, there was always the time when the bombing run needed to be done and I seldom hit the target that I needed.
I always thought it was neat how you had to manage people on the plane and take people out who got injured and put other gunners in their places. As far as I could tell, the flight controls and all we're pretty accurate for the game. Occasionally, I would try to skip ahead in the game with the time jump thing and I would find that the plane had crashed while I was gone. This was always one aspect of the game which I did not like. I did not like taking the time to fly to each location, paying attention to the map and all. I was more concerned with trying to gun down the enemy planes.
All
in all, I thought that this was a great game when it came out. I never got close to completing or winning the game, but I always had a great time. I had forgotten about this game until I found this website and I wondered if this game would be on it. I searched and found it and was really excited to play it again. Maybe since I am older (much older) I will understand more of what is going on and my computer should run this WAY better than the old system did. I don't quite know what else to say about this game because I am rediscovering this game as I type this review.
I look forward to piloting the plane more than I used to and now that I have a better understanding for World War III should have a better historical context to what is actually going on in the game. I look forward to doing a better job managing the crew, making sure that each person is in the location which they fit best and hopefully completing the missions as they were meant to be done. I am excited also to see how the emulator will run it differently than my original DOS version. I might provide an update after I have used this game for awhile again!
