Game Review (written by Eric) Added on: 03/11/2008
Hardwar is a space simulation game that is set in Titan, Saturn’s moon. The game was released in 1998 and was developed by The Software Refinery. The game is also known as Hardwar: The Future is Greedy. The city used to be a profitable mining town but after investors pulled out of the Titan, the city was left with chaos and the inability for space travel. This means the place was in isolation for 200 years.
You will play the pilot of the aircraft MOTH. The game is first set in an abandoned mining colony in the city called Misplaced Optimism. You can choose among three types of characters: a pirate, a trader, or a scavenger. The type of character you choose will affect what type of vehicle aircraft you will have. The vehicle is fitted according to the type of character.
You can engage in the city’s economy by engaging in the kind of profession you have chosen. You can actually engage in buying and selling products if you are a trader. If you are a pirate you can just take goods and if you are a scavenger, you will scavenge for the items you need. To earn additional money for the game you can also help kill people who are wanted by three factions—the police, Lazarus and Klamp-G. When you find the people that these groups are looking for, you will earn bounty.
You can engage in missions for a weapon’s dealer named Psycho Bob. The game is non-linear and you can explore your surroundings as you go on with the game. The game features great graphics with interesting cut scenes that show the flow of the story of the game as you complete the different missions. The conditions of the game change as you make progress because the characters become more difficult. After you go trough the game, you will be able to escape the Titan.
Since the moth is solar powered, you need to plan your route so that you can complete the missions in the most efficient manner. The aircraft will lose its energy and you will need to recharge before going on the next part of your trip.
The game also has multiple player capability but just like other games released in the 90s that are not very popular, the problem is in finding other players who are interested in the game.
This game is worth keeping in your hard drive.
