In Indianapolis 500, you can choose how many laps you want to do - it can get mentally challneging as the laps go on. The graphics are pretty good, boxy, but good. The 3 panels for revs, speed and temperature is what you spend most of your time looking at. Getting your judgement of passing other cars whilst going into corners is what will bring you undone 9 times out of ten. Especially hard is judging the time to brake and when to accelerate out of a corner.
Many a champ will come undone if the gas is pressed too soon and you end up saying hi to the grass. Indycam is there so you can watch your race again and it is awesome if you have kicked some serious butt. This is a first person player game - without guns, rpgs or chainsaws, just the wheel as your weapon and speed as your ally, cruising past other cars and slowing down to stop them from getting past - the gameplay is pretty simple yet effective. Different tracks mean different turns and competition. The sfx make you feel kind of like you are really racing these giant engined F1s but a better soundtrack and not so clunky SFX would make

the experience a little bit more realistic. Vroom, vroom, vrooom and a strangled cat noise don't always make you feel like a top class race driver. The road can sometimes get a bit blinding - considering it is just a flat gray colour that goes on and on and on for as far as the eye can see and the crowd appears to be faceless and oftern, I wonder, are they all really here to support my racing team or are they all just here to be part of the excitement that is Indianapolis 500. Like a good fast pitstop can bring life back to a tired F1 car - this game could do with some bigger pixels and some more dynamic range of movement. For an old game - and like pole position, pitsop and le mans - it has stood up and allowed Gran Turismo, Colin McRae and Need for Speed a world to enter and build upon better race car experience. Without this game we might still be using the cars like the flintstones. I dare you to jump in the blue car, crank the accelorator a few times, honk the horn and tell me you don't love the game. So get your engines firing - this bad boy is a must for the folk that love pole position and fast times.
