Life and Death 2: The Brain is an awesome simulation game. The game itself has small plots for you to do, such as treat patients and perform surgeries, but there is much more fun to be had. I played this game when it was first released and I still play it today. If you’re not quite into saving your patients, you can have loads of fun, “not saving” them. As part of their treatment, you have to stick them with needles to make sure their nerves are still working, but it’s always a hoot to find out that their eyes still can feel pain.
All silliness aside, this game can become challenging too. Operations aren’t easy and take some practice.
You also have to go to class to learn how to do these things, but the classes are short, and I usually skipped through them. The graphics in the game are good for their time and are real enough to make it cool, but not gross.
The music is limited (or non-existent in most copies today), but the sound effects are nice. They make you feel as though you’re really in an ER when you have so many things connected to your poor patient. Also, with the sound effects you can hear your patient scream if you mess up during your exam, and it
always ends in a laugh or two. The realism of the game content is also a plus in the game, even though they warn you multiple times to NOT treat the game as a tool for learning. For instance, don’t put a poor person with a pacemaker in the MRI or you’ll no longer be seeing them; same with putting people allergic to shellfish in the CAT scan.
You also have to be thorough about your exams with your patients; if you don’t do everything, your boss gets mad. Although, he also gets very mad if you kill your patient or poke their eyes with needles. Also, if you get tired of treating your patients, you can have a nice talk with an early model of AI – the computer in your office. This is also a good source of laughs if you talk long enough with it. There’s also a difficulty level you can chose with the front desk if you want to do surgeries all the time (I mean that they actually NEED the surgery, you’re not just performing surgery on them for fun.) Overall a very good game for some laughs and something to do for a few hours or longer if you truly get into the spirit of the game.
