Game Review (written by Eric) Added on: 03/17/2008
The game Power Politics released in the 90s is a political simulation game based on the 1992 United States Presidential Election. It was created by Randy Chase and published by Cineplay Interactive Incorporated for DOS.
The game is all about the mechanics and the different factors that affect a Presidential Election. It is pretty realistic in terms of the factors that can affect the campaign of a Presidential candidate. The game is not only entertaining, it is also very educational. The game simulates the political climate in the United States during the 1992 campaign period.
At the start of the game, you need to choose one candidate from thirty people in the line up. These people were the same people to have run for President in the course of US’ history. Each political candidate has his own attributes. You can also choose to create your own candidate with his/ her own strengths and weaknesses.
After you pick or create your candidate, that’s when you have control over the candidate and choose how his/ her campaign will run. You control the candidate’s campaign schedule and decide whether the candidate will be conservative or liberal. You will also choose the candidate’s stand on important issues. Basically you decide everything that goes on in the campaign. You even set the budgets for the ads, what kind of character your candidate has, dealing with the running mate and everything else that has to do with how the campaign will go. You can play different scenarios in the game even making candidates from different decades compete in the game to see how it would go. Of course, you can’t really think of the game as historically correct. You can only imagine and try to predict what would happen given the scenario and given your perception of events and the decisions that you make. It’s all fun and interesting.
The game has decent graphics and sounds. They are pretty dated but they do work well for the game. The game has very high replay value. You can play this game over and over without getting sick of it. This is also a great game for those who are into politics and into simulation games. The game has enough elements and challenges to keep it from being a bore.
I think this is a fantastic game. Not everyone will enjoy this game as not everyone enjoys games with political themes but it is those who like this genre will definitely enjoy it.
