I downloaded Red Baron a few nights ago and I have found myself toughly hooked on it. I have not had any luck in finding a manual for it yet so I fumbled my way through the controls. The most important thing to know is that the numerical keys 1-9 are your throttle. The throttle controls are extremely important in this game as the engines in the early 1900's are quite needy little buggers. If you try to climb to fast stalling is a real problem, and if you are not at the right altitude you will find yourself in many little burning pieces on the ground below.

I found the easiest way to control the aircraft is to use the mouse for
your yaw (left and right) and firing and the up and down keys for elevation and pith controls.
In story mode you can choose which side you wish to fly with (the Germans or the Allies) I have been playing the Germans so far but will restart the game as the allies later.
There is a good amount of different types of missions that you must fly with in your squadron. These including scramble missions where you start on a runway and must take off to intercept enemy aircraft who are about to attack your airbase. Dog fight missions where you fly out against an enemy squadron and basically fight to the death. Patrol missions, where the name says it all, these missions are time consuming where you are flying around and looking for trouble (you usually find it). Balloon busting defense. I like these missions, it’s fun to climb high in your craft and swoop down to blow up the enemies balloons, watch out though they usually have lots of defense. Escort missions, where you are looking after two or three aircraft who are taking photographs of the front line. My favourite is the bombing raid defense missions where you have to take down enemy bombers. The best way is to drop in behind them and lower your speed and blast the bejesus outta them.
The rewards are good for how many pilots you bring down, you get medals depending on how many kills that you have.
An important tip for starting players is, do not be afraid to land when you have been shot up, if your plane is on its last legs because you cant shake that pesky enemy pilot off your tail drop your altitude and prepare to land, spending a couple of months in hospital to fly another day is far better than being listed as deceased.
Have fun!
