Game Review (written by Ms209005) Added on: 07/29/2006
Sim City is the first in what has become a long line of city building simulators from maxis games. I know that the basic idea of the game doesn't sound like it would be at all entertaining, much less fun, but I think you will find this game pleasantly surprising. The game premise is fairly simple, just build the ultimate city. You start with an empty field where you build a small city and slowly build it up into a roaring metropolis, while working around and trying to overcome the usual problems a city faces.

Pollution, traffic, and land values just to name a few, in addition to the normal issues you are also faced with several natural disasters, such as, fires, floods, and earthquakes. I'm betting

that with the challenges of designing and building a functional city, putting up with your sims attitude, and contending against the forces of nature, that you'll not only get weeks of enjoyment out of the game, but you'll find it strangely addictive and keep coming back for more.
The graphics are excellent for the time, with three basic lot types, each with varying stages of development, and several other lots each with a more specific function, such as the fire house, police station, airport, seaport, and park. All of these are beautifully rendered. The in-game controls are perfect, and very easy to learn and get used to, you are provided with a plethora of options, all easily accessible, and each clearly labeled with a picture depicting its use. The music for the game, while not exactly great, is well suited for the games atmosphere and very far from being annoying. It's all slow paced instrumental.
In addition, you also, of course, have the option of turning the music off if you find it to be to grating on your nerves. The sound effects are excellent for a game of the time, and very well done. From the sirens indicating the occurrence of a disaster or problem that's gotten way out of hand, to the crushing and grinding sounds of the bulldozer ripping through your buildings.
All in all, this is a wonderful game, and well worth your time to download. In my humble opinion, this is one of the best sim games out there, and still one of my all time favorite games. I highly recommend it.
