Sim City Classic is one of the most famous benchmarks in computer simulation entertainment. In this game you are to create a successful and prosperous city dorm a small town of merely nothing. Depending on the way you choose the tax rates that will be imposed on to your city, the layout of your zoning, the government recourses, and civilian needs (i.e. water purification plants, desalinization plants, public transportation, etc...), your city will either become very rich, or very poor. This simulator also features a quite incessant vexation of natural

disasters that will destroy your city and cause you great agony and could even be the turning point of your cities financial strengths. Sim City was the beginning of modern simulators that were entertaining at the same time; unlike its early-time predecessors that had the graphics comparable to the Gen-1 Nintendo.
However, the popularity from this game sparked an interest in this type of gaming simulator. Later on, after the popularity died down, Maxis released numerous gaming simulators like Sim City, but focused on different aspects of our world. Sim Town was a more detailed, but more local version of Sim City, but limited your options to a specific genre. Sim Ant was also released which was a simulator of an ants life and daily "chores" an ant must undergo on a day to day basis. Another game that is similar to this type of computer entertainment is The Incredible Machine, which was an entertaining way to make contraptions the could do various things using ordinary house held items like ropes, basketballs, lights, candles, and other tools.
Sim City is definitely a very entertaining game that should be played by everyone to understand detailed life simulation entertainment programming. As no other game is as well thought out and as popular in its kind, Sim City is a game that is a benchmark for simulation, and an actually educating game that is fun for people of different ages.

Game Review 2 (written by Superdude) Added on: 08/20/2006
Sim City Classic takes you back to when video games didn't rely on funny graphics or stereo sound and cinematic to get you hooked. So simplistic in its design and so straightforward that you don't need to read the instruction manual to play. The goal is simple to figure out, the controls are easy, and the challenges will test you wits and your patience. So many variables into building a metropolis...who knew it could be so difficult to run a large city?
In Sim City your job is to basically use the available amount of funds in order to build a small community into a thriving metropolis. While the music and the graphics are simplistic, the game-play is utterly addicting. As you get further into the game you realize that there are approval ratings from the people living within your city, and that you need to fix problems in order to make your residents happy. Everything imaginable from pollution to traffic to crime are just some of the complaints made by your residents.
What makes the game challenging is that you are only able to build the city up using your located resources, which come from the residents, so it's a good idea to make them happy. Along the way you also encounter natural disasters like earthquakes, tornadoes, floods, etc. The really neat thing about the game is when you first decide on which type of power source to go with (either a coal plant which produces a lot of pollution or nuclear power plant which is prone to have a nuclear explosion).
Overall the game-play is solid and for those who love puzzle/strategy games, SimCity Classic is a simplistic game that will provide more than just a few hours of fun. The multiple land formations in the beginning all provide their own unique challenges and the fact that you have to wait for the city to grow in population to generate revenue will test you patience, but it will be a pleasurable experience once you build you small town into a thriving metropolis! Not a game recommended for those with a short attention span, or those looking for a quick 30 minute game fix.
Much simpler than its sequels, SimCity is a game that you can pick up and play wherever, whenever for hours of fun. Enjoy!

I played this game on my teacher's Mac Color Classic back when I was in 7th grade. The Windows version plays just like the Mac version. It's a great download.
