Street Rod sounds like a running away from cops sort of game, doesn't it? Well, wrong! It is actually really fun. It is like NFS but not import tuners, not cops, just American muscle. From coupes made in the forties, sedans in the fifties, or muscle it out with a corvette, or even perhaps a Dodge charger.
Customization, sounds like putting on aftermarket bumpers and hoods and side skirts. In this game, the only bodywork is maybe chopping the roof, or taking off the bumpers.
The parts are quite realistic. They wear out, or a v-8 racing manifold doesn't fit on a v-6 engine. It is a wide variety from transmissions, engines, tires, fuel injection, or to engine parts, it is all in this very small game. So it is good to have a little dough on you when your transmission is lying on the road. It is also good to sell unneeded parts like stock manifolds for only fifteen bucks, but it is worth it. For the races you have to go to a diner of course to meet drivers while they are not racing to race them on the blacktop. Mostly, they will say chicken if you don’t race, or if you don't bet high
enough. If you really got a chance, they will not race for pinks, but if you win bet races long enough, they will stop taking that wager.
When I first played this game, I thought it sucked. But when I got the hang of it, I played it a lot. I had a manual transmission, so I hit 0, and it shifted of the line. The opponents try to ram you off of the road sometimes and you have to be on guard. The v-6 is easy to beat, but the v-8 is another story. I raced a v-6, I smoked him. I raced a v-8, and he smoked me. You can give the car 4 or 5 different colors, so there is a choice of color. If you get racing tires the rim has a different appearance.
The graphics are very, very good or at least compared to its time. The sound really sucks, so I would turn it off in the garage while you are in there. I have a ford customized coupe, so if you play it long enough and keep trying, and not letting your parts fall, you can be the king of the road. It is amazing how many options this game has. All the parts, all the cars, all the opponents, and the reality that this game has. If you played and liked this game, try street rod 2.
