I remember playing this game back in the day. We had Stunt Car Racer arcade machines in a local pizza shop.
The gameplay is classic, there isn't anything that stands out head and shoulders above the rest, when it comes to the originality of this game, in comparison to others at the time. The game was both thought up and programmed by a Geoff Crammond.
If you were around when the game was popular, it should bring back some good memories. The game’s racing system consists of eight circuits. You can practice on them to improve your skills, and you are going to need them, because this game gets wicked. When you finally get to the point of racing, remember that going as fast as possible all the time isn't always a great idea. There are speed humps that if you hit going too fast, you will sent up into the air and slowed down enough to let the computer fly past you. Don’t forget there are no fences in this game either, so you can go on for a long time, if you aren’t paying attention and lose the race, because of it. Also watch out, because your car can take damage, which is always a bad thing. One thing that I do like about that though, is the damage will show on your vehicle. So, only few games back then allowed little scuffs and bumps to show up, it really adds a lot to the game, I think. More games should have that feature. Anyway back to the review. The best way to avoid damage is to just practice and practice. The better you get going around the track, the more you will be able to avoid crashing and bumping.
All in all, I'd recommend downloading it, it is definitely worth the 5 seconds it take to do so.

Stunt Car Racer is one of the best car races from that period. People that designed it really wanted to try something different and that was certainly achieved in this hot up crazy game. The grunt engine sounds are very lively also, while you’re tearing around the track, good to have the volume up for full effect. Like many racing games it’s always interesting to see what limits the car will go to and Stunt Car Racer really offers this with life, like umps and rolls and the ability to leave a jump and fly through the air with great ease and land in an outrageous position on the course.
The characters you can chose for the racing are also a mixture of tall strange men to crazy looking petrol heads which adds the excitement.
The levels in the game seem to continue forever and I have never seemed to be able to make it through all of them. I have actually wondered if the track just auto generates which is likely, because you do often seem the same jumps and scenery. I have made it through 20 tracks and there was no end in site.
So, all in all, Stunt Car Racer really is an exceptional piece of programming that will keep both, girls and boys amused for hours as they practice their driving skills on roller coaster tracks and ludicrous heights.
Stunt car racer is well worth checking it out.

I have played this game and it is awesome. The graphics of the stunts and the cars themselves are average but the uses which can be done with them are unreal. I would recommend this game to everyone cause there is nothing like itMark (04/17/2007)

Good old Stunt Car Racer. This was a great game back in the day. This is definitely worth a download and is still good fun. Took a while to get used to and with all the various jumps etc on the variety of the tracks available, it was always important to get the right speeds set for all of the leaps or you would either destroy your car or plunge to your doom! Although the boost always made it too tempting to overcompensate and go soaring over the jumps like the Dukes of Hazzard anyway. Great fun and worth giving a go. 8/10Jekerwin2 (04/15/2007)
