Before I start, let me first say that Stunts is a stunt car racing game that has plenty of cars to drive, plenty of opponents to race plenty of different stunts to try, and thousands of hours of game playing and creating your very own tracks!
Please bare in mind that this game was made in the early 90's, so the graphics are something you would not expect from current titles like NFS or Grand Turismo. Also, the sound is pretty basic. You have your engine sound which pretty much sounds the same for all the cars, the background music and the sound of your car crashing which again is the same for all the cars out there.
But for its time this game was really revolutionary. I remember playing it when I was younger. I used to spend hours and hours making my own tracks and racing the computer opponents.
There are several different cars you can choose from ranging from slow and clunky to sexy and fast! After you pick the car you want to drive, you can either go at it solo, or pick an opponent to race. There are a handful of opponents to choose from with each having there own special skills and weakness (examples include strong at corners or fast at the straight) and all range in difficult to beat.
The best part of this game would be the fact you can build your own race track from scratch. You can
customize absolutely everything...from the turns, to the straight ways...the length of the track...you can add loops on top of loops, bridges, sharp corners, spirals, cliffs, jumps and the list goes on. I found myself spending most of my time designing the 'perfect' track to race on. After that was done I would pick the fastest car and an opponent and watch myself soar through the air after I take off and go through one of the loops on the track.
It’s a very basic and easy game to get a hang of and doesn’t require any beefy CPU to run it at all. I used to run it on a P2 333MHZ and it ran great. Stunts would be a perfect game for anyone wanting to kill some time or go back and relive the good old 90's. I have tried it on WinXP and haven’t been able to get it running although I am confident it will run on DOSBOX. I think if it had the ability to race opponents online or include some sort of online management or career mode, then they could have been on to something really big. Stunts in my opinion, is the game that started it all for race fans everywhere.
