Game Review (written by Eric) Added on: 03/20/2008
If you enjoy flight simulation games that pay great attention to details then you would definitely enjoy the game Tornado by Digital Integration Ltd. The game was released in 1993. The game is played mainly in the Cockpit view. The cockpit in the game looks pretty realistic with all the details that are included. You can choose to play in the Pilot’s seat or in the Weapon Engineer’s seat at the back.
The game has three modes: Training, Simulation and Mission. In the Simulator Mode, you will learn basic controls in the cock pit.
In the Training Mode, you will be under an extensive training in preparation for being a fighter pilot. The Training mode is composed of combat and ground missions. The Mission mode is where you will begin to play as a fighter pilot and go on different missions. If you are new to this game, you will be spending quite a lot of time learning how to control the aircraft in the simulation and training modes. The game can be quite complicated because of all the elements and details involved.
You can play single missions which usually involves flying to a particular destination, hitting a target and then returning. You can play single missions over and over as each mission presents different challenges. You can also play a Campaign which involves managing one whole fleet.
The best feature of the game is its graphics. The developers took great pains in making the cockpit complete with the right details. The terrain also looks and feels great. The game also presents the physics and dynamics of flying a real plane. The graphics may not look amazing these days but when the game was released it really helped players have an amazing flight simulation experience. Because of the high level of realism the game presents, the game is said to have been used by the English Royal Air Force for the training of its pilots.
One good way to enjoy the game is to play it with multiple players. Each player can pilot his own jet or you can build teams. A player can play the Captain while the other one plays the Weapons Engineer.
The game is great fun so I suggest you download it now and play it. I wasn’t too keen on trying this game at first because I’ve tried many flight simulation games before and I didn’t really enjoy them. But Tornado is different, it’s fun and engaging.
