Game Review (written by Eric) Added on: 04/05/2008
The game Tracon is an air traffic control simulation game from Wesson. The game will have you playing the role of an air traffic controller who has to make sure that the traffic in the airport is under control. You will be in charge of a sector in the airport that is pretty large so there is significant number of aircrafts that are coming and going.
The user interface is pretty simple. The screen has a radar map that shows the planes as green dots. All the information you need to manage the air traffic will be provided to you via the radar screen. You can also communicate with the pilot of aircrafts that are coming and going so you can get additional information from them to determine what kind of decision you have to make. You will hear the pilots requesting clearance, complaining and others.
The game has great sounds and all the dialogues are very loud and clear. So you can really play the game well and not become frustrated with the sounds. The graphics is also pretty good.
As the game progresses the airport will become busier which means you will need to make decisions faster. This means the time you have to process the information that are given to you will be shorter. You will experience stress just like a real air traffic controller. There will be so much that you need to monitor and the chances of committing a mistake also becomes greater. It will be a hectic job but you must keep your presence of mind because if you make mistakes the results will be fatal. You have to make sure that the arrivals and departures are on time to avoid any conflicts. There will also be emergency cases that you have to resolve fast.
When Tracon was released it was the most realistic air traffic simulation game there ever was. It was so good that it was used to train professionals. But the game is not only realistic and challenging, it’s also a lot of fun. You won’t even begin to imagine how much time I spent on this game when I first got a copy.
