This game is absolutely for its time. I had so much with it. It was actually pretty advanced for it's time with how it allows you to pick and choose opponents and move up the ladder to ultimately be the champion. The voices in it get kind of annoying but you can't expect that much from such a primitive game. The fact that ABC sponsored the game kind of shocked me as I've never seen boxing on ABC but maybe that’s cause I'm Canadian and I don't watch ABC that much.
I always hated trying to figure out whether to reject or accept a person for a fight, and I would always go for the big money fights before I was ready and my guy would always lose. I could never really get to the top in this game but that wasn't the point. The game is addictive and once you start you just don't want to stop until you make it to the top.
The ability to make your own boxer with choices of hair and skin colour makes it even more personal for you and allows you be even more involved with the game. You have to take what you learn from fights and use it against
them if you ever face the person again. It takes a lot of thinking and strategy to get to number 1 something I never had when I was like 5 or 6 and playing this game.
I really love classic games (like early Nintendo days) and this game I can still play and compare it to anything that is out there right now. I'd easily put this game above any of the new boxing series' that are on the Playstation and Xbox and Gamecube. Dan Dierdorf's voice in the game adds to it and gives it a more official feel.
Like the preview says, this game is an updated version, so if you've never played the game before then play this one first, or if you're downloading them try them both out, but if you have to pay to get just one then get this one, unless Dierdorf's voice is a turnoff for you. But really this game is updated with better motions and graphics.
I hope that now I can actually be the champion this time and focus on it enough to learn the tricks I need to win ha-ha. The trainers and promoters also have to be bought, I just remember that. When you earn money from your fights, you can hire better people. I would recommend it to anyone from 5 years old to 55 years old.
