Game Review (written by Soccerryan) Added on: 12/05/2007
This game is for its age, a very good baseball simulator. It is fun to play, to scout out young new players, and to negotiate the trades that will put your team on top. I find the player assessment and grading system to be very easy to understand, and to give an accurate depiction of how that player will perform during the season. The descriptions that your scout’s give you is also a good addition, as it helps you predict how that player will perform in the future.
Another good feature is the ability to set your own expenses: by increasing medical funding, you can decrease injuries, spending more on your farm system gives you’re a greater number of more talented youngsters each year, and increasing your scouting expenses raises the ability of your scouts to give accurate reports on players. Furthermore, there is a hall of fame feature, which automatically inducts the best players after they have been retired for a few years. A newspaper feature also allows you to track achievements and developments throughout the league.
There is even a Commissioner mode, which allows you to force trades and edit players, if you feel so inclined, although you can edit team names even without it. Despite these things, the game does have its weaknesses. The game is challenge after you establish yourself as the best in the league, and you can easily go on 7 or 8 year streaks as World Series Champions. Also, once you have played about 20 years or so, the game numbers go a little crazy. Pitchers become ridiculously hard to hit, and batting averages all fall to well below 200. A few years down the road from that, the game flips, and suddenly batting averages are all well above 400. One of my pitchers had a season ERA of 134. Furthermore, people simply stopped attending my games after 30 or so years, and I went bankrupt, since my attendance averaged 340, with tickets around only 5 bucks. The game is very enjoyable! It’s worth downloading, especially if you are a baseball fan.
