Bluewater Hunter is a one-of-a-kind game that basically works out to be a diving a simulation game with some elements of edutainment and fishing in it, as well. Body Glove, which was one of the leading brands of wet suits in the eighties and nineties and still makes products in the present day, was the major sponsor of the game. While Bluewater Hunter is a diving simulation, it can also be considered a long, playable advertisement for Body Glove’s products.
Free diving is a challenging sport that has become especially hot for modern day thrill seekers.
There are six different locations in Bluewater Hunter from which the user can choose to explore. As one could discern from the title, the diver is a fish hunter, and will be seeking out the exotic, beautiful, and sometimes dangerous fish that can be found in each unique region offered in the game. The variety in the game does not end with the different locations or the plethora of trophy game fish that each area contains. The user will also be able to specialize his set up quite nicely, and has quite a bit of custom gear he can select from when hunting his fish. Aside from the vivid, tropical colors in the graphics, one of the strengths of the game includes the realism of
the gear the diver will utilize. The diving paraphernalia and the hunting gear is quite lifelike and features many qualities of real life equipment used in both ambitions. Choosing gear for maximum mobility as well as functionality is one of the challenges of the game.
As mentioned above, the graphics are colorful and lifelike. This is a three dimensional game, and it does a passable job of recreating a living, moving underwater environment. The environments range from the Hawaiian coast to the Great Barrier Reef, and the user will find a total of fourteen huntable game fish, as well as numerous other fish that cannot be killed…basically the equivalent of non-playing characters in a role playing game. Sharks are very common, and the user will fare better if he is savvy of which breeds of fish are dangerous and which are not. Even the non-dangerous, unhuntable fish are very cool. They serve to add realism, depth, and color to an already well-rendered undersea world. The game also features some actual footage of real dives that transpired in the featured areas.
With several levels of difficulty to choose from, and all of the different views and places to dive and hunt, Bluewater Hunter is a nice, unique and versatile little game that is worth a look based on its singularity and beautiful colors.
