Championship manager 2 was the revolution of the football simulator era that simply took the gaming market by storm, inside this game it allowed players to surf talent from under 21 squads from across Europe and allowed players for the first time to take control their national sides. This game did however have some bugs that were found such as entering the exact managers’ name for example calling yourself Bertie Vogt’s and then clicking on a German player and clicking on Germany would allow you control of the German national side without even earning the privilege.
That was one of the bugs reported to be found inside the game, a part from that the overall concept of the game was great in contrast to other simulators as this solely focused in on the aspect of team management without the additional gimmicks of bungs and player bribes that existed in earlier games.
However the great thing about this game is that the rules and regulations of football leagues across the nation were kept in accordance and being able to eventually manage the national sides were an additional bonus as it made the importance of becoming the number 1 manager more of a goal. If a comparison was to be drawn from this game and the ultimate soccer manager that
was produced by sierra games in the late 1990s I would like to mention that even though this game showed the same concept they were two different games in contrast as the championship manager series tended to become very much more technical with the rules and regulations of transferring between clubs and players etc..
The ultimate soccer manager was simply fun to play as offering bribes and building stadiums/bank balances and talking to the chairman about sponsorships were more fun as it made the game more like an arcade game to play thinking back I loved the ultimate soccer manager series and had great fun playing them but unfortunately as every season passes by the players name and database gets outdated but since the greats of Eric Cantona and Jurgen Klinsmann has since retired and are no longer in the football world it would be fun to go back in time to the 1990s and play them in a football simulator that is now apparently old but for ever will be gods.
