Formula 1 Grand Prix, I remember this game like it was yesterday. I believe this game revolutionized Formula 1 in the PC. I was a bit reluctant when I bought the game as I wasn't really familiar with Formula 1, however once I played it, I was hooked.
Let's begin the review. Formula 1 Grand Prix is a racing simulator. It was released in 1992 by Microprose and designed by Geoff Crammond. Even though the title suggests that it is Formula 1, there is actually no affiliation with the FIA.

Let's begin the review. Formula 1 Grand Prix is a racing simulator. It was released in 1992 by Microprose and designed by Geoff Crammond. Even though the title suggests that it is Formula 1, there is actually no affiliation with the FIA. The racing driver's names are all fictional, however the game does allow you to change it to suit Formula 1 drivers.
Gameplay itself was excellent. For a novice like myself you can jump right
in without knowing about vehicle setup and complete a Formula 1 season. It has heaps of driving aids which you can turn off or on depending on what you want. If you were a beginner like me I would suggest turning on all the driving aids. Driving aids include automatic braking on corners, invincibility and heaps more.
As your skills progress you can move up to a difficult level. I believe there are five difficulty levels. Like I said before if you are a novice then try the easiest level first until you get the hang of it.
Once you move on to greater difficulty levels, you'll find that your computer opponents get faster and therefore you have to do some changes on your vehicle setup. I remember spending all night to get the right setup for the Imolla track and get pole position for the race.
Another great asset of the game is its multi-player capability. You can play up to 26 players (I'm guessing here) if you really want to on one computer. Basically you drive your car for a few laps and then the computer takes over and then it jumps on to the next player's car and the next player drives the car. This goes on until the end of the race.
Graphics wise, I guess if you compare it to today's standards I would say it is blocky and below standard, however back in 1992 it was great. The tracks were accurately detailed as if you were actually driving on the track itself.
Overall I would rate this game 8 out of 10. I would recommend this game to everyone, even if you're not a racing fan.
