This game may pale by comparison to newer football games like Madden, but what it lacks in quick action and arcade like features it more than makes up for in strategy options. For those who want a thinking football game with enough quick play options to be interesting, rather than a test of hand eye coordination, FPS Football Pro 95 is great.
This game, unlike later buggy FPS installments, gives you more options on creating custom formations (unbalanced lines, etc.) and plays.
If you are looking for pure button-mashing action, this may not be the best choice for you, but it does offer enough options in game play, including several modes of play, to be very, very solid.
I would highly recommend this to anyone, but beware you might need an older operating system to utilize it, since it was made back before Windows 95 came out! That is, it was made to run in "DOS Mode" with real drivers, something that Microsoft does not necessarily support anymore. If you have an older computer lying around that still runs anything up through Windows 98, you ought to be able to use it, however.
This game does have one slight drawback - once you master the ability

to create custom plays, it is pretty easy to "cheat" and come up with plays that the computer defense is pretty much unable to stop. Specifically, I once made a bunch of "joke" plays using an unbalanced line single wing offense, and the defense was pretty much mystified as to how to stop it. Would real defenses really have trouble with spinners and the like - plays that come straight out of the 20s and 30s? I seriously doubt it, but it was fun to watch the defense seem helpless in the face of my "horse and buggy" offensive game plan. (I had similar results running the wishbone.) The offense that really got the defense and generally got me 20 yard gains was a very wide pitchout to a flanker - for some reason he always managed to turn the corner on the defensive backs and run down the sideline for tons of yards. This of course isn't very realistic either - but if you opt instead for later versions of Front Page Sports Football - particularly the 98 incarnation - you'll find it almost impossible to do anything against the juiced up defenses. Still, it is very fun and challenging to the creative mind.
All in all, this one is enjoyable, and can be realistic if you avoid the temptation to "cheat" as I've mentioned above. This game is highly recommended if you can run it. Give it a try.
