Front Page Sports: Baseball Pro 98 was developed by Dynamix, Inc. and published by Sierra On-Line, Inc. in 1997. This isn’t your regular arcade baseball game—it is a realistic baseball simulation. When the game was released, the sophisticated physics-based play was what set the game apart from others.
It has other strengths, including a statistics engine where you can enter all the stats and then play the game based on those stats. It also has roster management so you can manage a player from his start as a rookie all the way up to the hall of fame. You can even trade players—but don’t expect this to be immediate. Just as in real life, you have to wait for decisions to be made on a trade.
As a team owner, you can also be the general manager, or you can let the computer do some things for you. The computer GM can handle free agent signings, draft picks, and making calls during a game.
The statistics that are kept with this game is outstanding. Hundreds of statistics are recorded, from the standard to the obscure. Realistic stats are generated while you play full seasons, so you can end up with true-to-life stats. The stats of the previous season along with the age of the players determine how well, or how badly, the players perform the next season. Each player has many different ratings in statistics that determine each play. The players can also have injuries. They will be out of commission for a while, but after they return to the game, they won’t be up to par. Depending on how healed they are, a percentage of their skills will be taken away.
Players also go through spring training. During that time the owner sets how much time to spend on a improving the players’ certain skills. This will increase the players’ ratings.
There are a variety of options in controlling pitching (type, location, speed) and batting (such as type of swing). The animations of the players are realistic along with the physics of the ball (angle, speed, and where the ball goes).
If you just want a quick game, you can start up the arcade mode, or you can simply do an exhibition outing which is more realistic, but you don’t have to go through a whole season.
If you are only a fan of killer on-field action, this might not be the game for you. But if you favor a strategy game, as in how you will manage your team as in the real world and trying to take your team to the coveted World Series, this is a baseball game you will certainly enjoy.
If you want pass your spare time with pleasure and fun you need downloading this wonderful game! You’ll be excited and satisfied!
