Game Review 1 (written by Xeltron) Added on: 04/01/2007
Grand Prix Manager is rather good game. It has all the proper drivers, teams and circuits. It is sometimes a tad confusing, but there are help windows, so you can find your way around the game easier and not make mistakes. It can be challenging too, which is great and keeps you entertained for hours.
Winning a championship requires a lot of skill and it won't come easy. You will have to put in hours of practice and, probably, experience losing a number of time before you can take the big prize. The graphics were not too bad for the time, it was made. You can view the race, but you get a 2D view looking down on the cars and this means, it is sometimes hard to tell your cars from another one which has a very similar color. The menus are fairly easy to get around which is good.
There are 17 rounds in the championship and you will need to prepare carefully for each one. The game allows you to do all the things, the manager of a real formula one team would do as well. You can negotiate contracts with suppliers, staff for your team, sponsors and of course drivers. You can also aid in the design and engineering of your car. Grand Prix Manager puts you in total control of whatever team you may choose.
So, all in all, if you lake cars and races, you should try this one too.
Game Review 2 (written by Xbrokenvoice) Added on: 04/01/2007 It is hard to say what part of Grand Prix Manager I liked least. Whether it was that I had to do all the busy work behind formulating a winning team, or getting drivers together who actually got along with each other, this game just did not float my boat. I prefer the kind of racing games where you sit down, learn the controls, and then take to the circuit yourself (I've always been a big advocate of N64's Mario Kart 64). However, in Grand Prix Manager, nothing of the sort is possible. The entire game is spent on the other side of the fence.
This is not to say that it is a bad game overall. The graphics were pleasing enough, if a bit rough around the edges like someone in the graphic design team for Grand Prix Manager decided to rush through his work. As a die-hard fan of awesome graphics, this facet of the game was a bit of a disappointment. If you aren't as picky as I am about good graphics and prefer a good game over good graphics, then by all means, download Grand Prix Manager and play it.
Another thing. The job of team manager entails that you run everything that has to do with the team, including the team's financial needs. Now, I am good at math, but I don't like to constantly be doing it. Balancing a budget is also a big downside for me, but I suppose if you can get into that kind of stuff, then this game might be for you.
Even though you are doing all this hard work behind the scenes to keep the team together and successful, the success of the team ultimately depends on the drivers and the number of races they either win or lose. Now, I think it is a bit unfair that as a manager you can't train your drivers and make them better, but that could just be me. In the end, whether or not your team is successful in the standings will depend almost entirely upon trusting the drivers to do their best.
