Game Review (written by Chrissi) Added on: 11/18/2007
Hyper Blade is a futuristic hockey game that is fast, brutal and lethal to the players. It does have some characteristics like a hockey game such as the players are still using a hockey stick, but the ways it is used are completely different. The stick is made of a metal and instead of being called a stick it is called a jack. The arena has been altered as well. The sides of the arena re straight up, and the goal is no longer a net, it is hole at the end of each point of the arena. The arena is shaped like a torpedo but cut in half.
Each player is in an armor suit with his or her team colors on it. The armor is used to protect them. The game is played like the famous gamed called Roller ball. You are trying to get the ball, or as known in the game ‘rok’ into the goal to gain your team points. There is the capability of using your jack as a weapon against the opposite team to gain way towards their goal.
The game does have a different number of players as the regular hockey team. You have two forwards and a goalie, which you are able to switch through to control. The skaters have the capabilities to jump, flip, turn and do fancy skating sequences. The cameras point of view will change every time you switch to a different player. You have the capability of seeing your player at a 360-degree viewing window.
There are twelve different 3D arenas that you will be able to play on. Each arena has its own unique layout for the power ups and obstacles that are placed. Some of the obstacles could consist of jumps, ramps, trenches, bumps and traps. Each can have a good or bad effect on your team and your opponents, depending on how you make use of them. The graphics done on each level are done in high-resolution, textures maps that use thousands of colors. The game graphics will definitely take this game to the next level of success.
You will have a selection of 12 international teams, or you are able to create your own team from thirty-six different custom players. There are bonus points given when you master certain moves or you can increase your team’s skills in certain areas. Each team has their own skill levels making the difficulty level your own decision. Hyper blade can be played by yourself or in head to head competitions with up to three other players through your local area network. The game has not been set up for play over the Internet.
Hyper blade is definitely a great futuristic hockey game. You have the wondrous game play of the regular hockey game that has been tweaked in ways to make this game have its own unique aspect. Hyper blade can be highly addictive and very competitive between you and your friends. If you enjoy futuristic sport games, you will love this one.
