When I first played this game I thought it would just be another racing game, where you drove a car around a little track with little turns and almost exciting jumps and feats. But the game ignition proved me wrong. I played it about five years ago and I’m happy to report that it was splendid.
I most enjoyed smoking all of the others on Snake Island while using my favorite car called the banana. The graphics were amazing for that day and age it was almost like today’s graphics.
The tracks all had so much depth and its colors were rich and the use of shading was great. Any ways this game is challenging as it is fun. Unlike most games who’s “computers” either roll over and die when you tap them or are so hard to beat you literally stay up all night to try and beat one level and when you finally beat it you don’t even feel like playing the game any more. Then the gaming gods smiled down and split screen was born, I guess, well anyways the split screen allowed you to challenge friends in races to prove the speed demon of the time.
I loved to play it at parties and my friends liked
it to because you wouldn’t always lose. I thought it became too easy when you had to only get third in championship mode because if you are going to become the champion you should have had to get first on every level because a champion is someone who can beat everybody, not just three of them.
The single race was great for those times I could only play for about five minutes because of bed times or what ever came my way. Ah, the classic time trial, it was used to see who was the best between my brother and me. Even when he wasn’t there I could race his ghost to see if I could beat it. Finally the best of all, Pursue mode. This was used so that it would work like a tournament. The last car to finish a lap was eliminated so that it would only come down to the very last two racers and they would battle it out for that first place finish. Although it was hard to beat the first levels with those bad cars it got more fun as you had to avoid more and more obstacles that would mess you up. You would be doing so well it would be like a world record then you would get careless and hit an oil slick and your time or position would go down the drain. Over all it was a challenging and fun game all swirled into one.
