Jimmy White Whirlwind Snooker

Game Review (written by Eric) Added on: 02/06/2008
Released in the early 90s, Jimmy White’s Whirlwind Snooker is a 3-D rendering of the cue sport. The game was released by Virgin games for different platforms including Atari, Amiga, and the PC. The game became popular and Virgin even sponsored a nationwide tournament in the UK during that time.
The best feature of the game is its 3-D graphics with rich details that really brought you into the screen. Because the game is in 3D, you can turn the table and cue to see the table at practically all angels making it easier to play the game.
There is even a white dotted line that shows the path of the ball that makes it easier to take a successful shot. The graphics allowed the player to feel like he/ she is playing the real game but there are some features in the game that make it quite endearing and entertaining. If you take too long to make hit a ball or to take your turn, there are animated sequences to provide comic relief.
The game was created by Archer Maclean for the Amiga. Maclean is a well-know designer of Amiga games. His other popular creations include International Karate and Dropzone.
The game is well-made and simulates Snooker almost perfectly. If you play Snooker in real life, you will experience authenticity with this game. If you have no experience with the sport then you will still enjoy the experience that this PC game will provide you. The game is so realistic that it can actually give you a glimpse of possible actions in a real snooker game. Aside from the tournament, you can also have fun with the “trick shot” mode which allows you to make popular trick shots.
The controls will take getting used to but once you have played a few rounds of the game, you will be able to control your balls and your cue pretty efficiently. The interface is simple and easy to get used to. The AI is a good opponent in the game and plays a good game against you. It is easy enough for those who aren’t even very interested in snooker but it provides enough challenges for the gamer.
This game is perfect for those who enjoy Snooker and other sports. This game is arguably the best cue sport game ever released. Download it now and play Snooker in the comforts of your own home and computer chair.
