Game Review (written by Catusing) Added on: 01/19/2007
Lakers vs. Celtics was one of the first games that I have ever bought, it was in the late 80s that I first played it. I remember that it was one of the best graphic in the day. I love how realistic it seemed to be but now that I am a lot older I can tell that its not a very good game like I used to think it was, but it is still fun to play. I always fond of John Stockton and the Utah Jazz so about 99% of the time I played as them but when I didn't play as the Utah Jazz I was the Boston Celtics cause I was fond of Larry Bird.
It took me about 3 years to actually figure out how I can win the game and keep my opponent scoreless, even now when I try to do the same thing I always end up losing. I guess over the years I forgot how to win in old school games, but I would still recommend this game to anyone who likes old school graphics and games. John Stockton wasn't always the main reason why I always played as the Utah Jazz, I also liked Karl Malone and Mark Eaton, even now I still can't figure out why I liked Mark Eaton, maybe it was cause he was a pretty tall guy, maybe it was just cause he was able to score on anyone that was guarding him, I don't know.
But what I do know is that if it wasn't for this game I wouldn't have any knowledge of the NBA, College Basketball, or even High School basketball, even though I still have little to no interest in any of them. All I do know is that if I was to play Lakers vs. Celtics again I would be trying hard to keep the opponent scoreless while trying to get all my players into double digit scoring and trying to have the best scoring percentage possible. In this game it is extremely hard to have a perfect or near perfect scoring, but I know it is possible, just have to keep all the shots close, even though I am a person that loves shooting three pointers. What is a better way to win over any opponent than shooting the game winning shot which is a half court three pointer at the buzzer? I don't know any perfect shot that would be sweeter than that. Well maybe keeping the opponent scoreless maybe.
But overall the worst part of the game has to answer the question before u can select what type of game you want to play. Luckily someone made a patch to override that.

(10/23/2006) A nice Basketball-Sim, not a smash-hit but really playable. You aren't only able play the L.A. Lakers or the Boston Celtics like the name of the game implies - you can choose from more than that as you can play the entire Playoffs. The controls aren't bad, but somehow the game wasn't able to hook me. A nice choice for basketball-fans anyway. |
