Micro League Baseball was the first in what was planned to be a series. Next was going to be Micro Football and then micro basketball. However production on the latter two games was halted as micro baseball wasn’t as successful as expected and failed to build on the arcade success of micro league baseball 1.
But, it's hard to see why. True, the graphics aren’t stunning, but you come to expect that from the title, and remember one of the most successful soccer games of this era was of course Sensible Soccer.
The gameplay on micro league baseball 2 is also very good. Controls are simple to learn, yet it takes around about one hours practice to truly master timing. The options in the game include, 'world series' and exhibition match. World Series gives player a chance to make a run for the famous trophy and try to rewrite history. Something which becomes a challenge late on in the season and maybe you'd need to be a lot more tactical then I was if you want to win the big one. This lack of depth is one of the niggling things that let MLB2 down. A few more options would have been nice. Maybe a practice net feature or even the option to play, three five
or seven innings, instead of the nine it only offers.
You can pick your favorite team from the 30, although, due to licensing restrictions of course they couldn’t use any real names but when you cream a home-run with "Barry Bondage" you know what you getting into.
So what could Micro league baseball of done, given the restrictions MS-Dos presented to games. Well they could have incorporated some form of simulation version, where users could simulate a season with a chosen team. Also if only they’d added some kind of edit names feature, to remove instances like the 'Bondage' Factor.
On the other hand, credit where credits due. The graphics do enough to let you enjoy the game and with good controls it's easy to get addicted. Which are also a good sign and a typical feature of the publisher’s games over this decade.
It's a shame we didn’t get to see Micro league football, with a few tweaks it could of caught on, and maybe taken some of the early market share that the madden franchise has since monopolized
All in all, I give this game a decent 7/10 rating. It was borderline memorable and that’s more then the producers gave it credit for.
