I found this game to be almost a déjà-vu of Need for Speed but with a ‘darker and moodier’ twist. A lot of the scenery is very dreary, with purples, blues and blacks being the predominant colors but it was still able to capture the whole post-modern theme that the original designers and programmers were capture. As many other users may notice, there is surprisingly little dialogue, or at least audio dialogue, present in this game. All of this helps to contribute to the mood but overall I found the mood to low key and it didn’t seem as dark as it did tired, it did have a well selected color panel.

I found the graphics to be very superior when compared to other DOS games
and was pleasantly surprised to see that my old ‘Dosbox’, which is gathering dust in my basement, was able to pull off so much. The lighting was far superior to any other graphical feature of the game with fancy colored lighting and various reflections dominating my screen. I was however, a little bit disappointed in the very box frame of some of the cars and, when compared to other features, it seemed as if the programmers slacked off a little bit. The tracks though, showed very little evidence of any slacker-ship which may be why they looked so much better. Even when I looked up close, with my car parked I was a little bit impressed.
While it may seem very basic in terms of goals, I would rate it high in game play in other more abstract aspects. Some of these include controls and AI, which I found reasonably well done. The controls on the cars were a little bit more challenging than on other games made in this era as they had a slightly tougher and less arcade-like feel. The cars were a little bit frisky, in the clean meaning of the word, and the whole setup almost drew me in. The AI is pretty basic, very basic by our standard, and a little bit below the level of the AI in Twisted Metal 2.
It’s fun and I’d recommend any racing enthusiast to try it out.
