Game Review (written by Shannon) Added on: 12/23/2007
UEFA Euro 96 England is an officially licensed game of soccer that simulates the European Cup soccer championship, held every four years, two years before the World Cup. In 1966, the cup was hosted by England, who had not won the cup in thirty years. It was published by Gremlin Interactive, and is actually based on the game engine for Gremlin’s other title, Actua Soccer.
UEFA Euro 96 England provides many features of standard soccer arcade simulations, making it a worthwhile game. The full licensures made certain that all the teams of the 96 UEFA were available for play in the game, and that the names and player statistics were all accurate. It is very easy to play, and fortunately has a very user friendly interface, although it takes practice to perform fancier passes and shots. The game features a third person perspective and changeable three-dimensional views from any position on the field, making it easy to follow the action.
There are three basic modes of play in Euro 96. Training is a recommended beginner’s feature that will help the user to familiarize him with the controls. It allows the gamer to practice many different types of shots and passes on the pitch, and also can pit the user against the opposition’s goalies in order to size up the competition in a friendly manner. The user is also allowed to play a single friendly game, or go for it all and compete in the tournament for the cup.
Game play itself is satisfying enough. There is a radar screen in the bottom corner to help the user keep track of the positions of all his men on the field. The user can determine the speed of play by choosing low or high resolution graphics. With either choice, the player with the ball is clearly marked and will blink when in position to make a move. Making specific and difficult shots can be much easier if a joystick is used to play, but the user can still make do without, provided he practices some.
Euro 96 also has many optional features that can be turned on and off. While they take away from the realism of the game, they can speed up game play and make it more fun. Some of these features include turning off the offside’s penalty rule or selecting exceptionally friendly or blind referees.
In short, Euro 96 is a nice, user friendly light weight soccer game that does a good job of being playable by everyone. It has a short learning curve and many options that allow the user to customize play based on realism, performance of the PC or fun. It is recommended for download for all soccer enthusiasts.

Shwan (12/26/2006) Very good. My sister bought it for me for my birthday I enjoyed it very much! Keep it up mate.Lil_snicker33 (10/16/2006) This game is pretty tight. I like it because it’s funny and you get to do a lot of cool tricks and it’s kinda like real life stunts but over all I think it’s number 1 of the best games that I’ve played on this site. Out of ten stars I would give it an eight cause I like how real it looks and how real the game feels. And the graphics are pretty good, I like them. I would rate the graphics a seven out of ten.Fjkdlsls;a (10/11/2006) this game is the best! I haven't played anything like it!Jnsb28 (05/15/2006) This game is great! |
