Skunny Kart. I remember Skunny Kart from way back when I had gotten my first computer. Along with the computer came a few freeware games one of which was Skunny Kart. SK was good for its era, like Mario Kart for the old SNES.
The gameplay is not unlike similar games of its genre, racing against other characters along a colorful closed track littered with obstacles, in the aim to gain first place, along the way collecting power ups to hamper your opponent’s efforts (such as missiles, invisibility wizard hats, invincibility genie lamps, shrinking potions), but watch out for things like banana peels and rodents, also be on the look out for computer players that are on your tail!
There are several different modes of play in Skunny Kart.
-“Time Trial” in which you race on any of the 40 tracks in an attempt to obtain the best time possible.
-“Normal Racing” in which you race against the computer, or against a friend in a split screen style action play.
-“Battle Mode” in which you battle against the computer, or against a friend to see who is the top Skunny Kart contender
Skunny Kart also supports up to two peripheral joypads on a single computer to allow for an optimal gaming experience to be had.
There are a variety of different tracks and challenges for you to handle in Skunny Kart (a total of 40!), a variety of characters to choose from (including a Hippo, a Giraffe, a Duck Billed Platypus, a Beetle, a Squirrel,
an Octopus, and a T-Rex!!!).
All in all, this game was able to bring back fond memories of a lost are of gaming. If you are looking for a slice of nostalgic pie that will send you back to the early 90’s, to be filled with Zoo animals and prehistoric dinosaurs this is your ticket. A great game with solid replay value that will keep you coming back for more and more Mario style classic race game action.
