If you are into betting on horse races but just don't have the bank to do it in real life, or just a fan of horse racing in general, then this is the game for you. It was originally named 'Omni-Play Horse Racing'. When it later arrived in America, its name was changed to 'Sport Of Kings'. Up to four human players can play at one time and try to create a prosperous horse racing stable. Choose your horse and jockey and let the race begin.
But don't forget to place your bet so you can earn some big cash for your stable.
For as old as this game is, it is very realistic when it comes to information pertaining to the horses and jockeys. Each horse and jockey has detailed information on them, like position wins, win percentage, money percentage, and so on. Also the way the game is laid out for betting is super simple and easy to place. Plus you can also purchase tips from people. It's up to you whom you get the information from and some informants are much better than others.
The graphics for it's time: Top notch, and even now they are reasonable for the type of game this is. You
really don't need the super 3d look you would get with most games made today. I think it would take away from the game. And watching the horses race around the track is cool and fun to watch. There are also different weather conditions which will have an effect (although small) on the outcome of the races and they are shown in the graphics.
Even if this isn't your type of game I'd still recommend giving it a shot. I downloaded it on a whim and found myself yelling at my computer when I lost and giving high fives to a friend who had no idea what was going on. Small download, easy to get a hang of, great for passing time, and no horse sh*t to pick up!
SIDE NOTE: This is not the version where you need the manual to enter in a word from page such and such on line so and so. It you have that copy there are a coupleof dfferent websites that have the manual so it will only take a little time to find it and get your game started.
The skinny.
