Game Review (written by Jharrisx) Added on: 02/03/2007
What can be said about TV Sports Football that doesn't sound over the top? If you had an Amiga, back in the day... AND you splurged for the 1 MB Ram upgrade (heady stuff indeed in and around the year 1990), you couldn't do much better so far as sports games went.
They didn't have the NFL license, if I recall correctly... but they did have fully customizable rosters and league settings. I remember saving the league to a floppy disc, then handing that disc off to friends who were also owners and players in our league.

I don't recall if this was the first football game to actually go for the overhead, top to bottom scrolling... but it felt that way. It got football out of the realm of 'Forth and Inches' territory, and on a track that would eventually lead to Madden and others.
Utilizing only the one button joystick that carried over to the Amiga from the Commodore 64 (not to mention the Atari 2600, where it all began), it felt as though you really could do a lot of 'playing' with this game. You could dive to sack the quarterback, go downfield for the massive, blow the game open bomb, run from scrimmage with your head down, etc.
I never played the TV Sports games on a PC... I'm assuming they're the same. Truth is, I never contemplated owning a PC until the Amiga began to putter out on the national stage and we realized the days of Commodore were coming to an end.
Look, I love sports games. I own an Xbox 360 and eat, breathe and sleep the latest, greatest sports games... but there will always be a place in my heart for TV Sports Football. It was the first of its kind. It made me, and my friends, feel like we were in the game. The presentation was top notch and the playabiltiy was addictive as hell.
I don't recall being as fond of the other games in the franchise... didn't particularly care for TV Sports Basketball and didn't really play much of TV Sports Boxing... but who cares? It's all about the Football. With video games, it seems it's always been that way.
You can't do better for a retro gaming experience. Hell, it's better than the last version of Madden in its own way...
