Wipeout is a fast paced action game with intense graphics for its time anyways. The reflexes required to master this game border on those of a Jedi. If frustration of a games difficulty makes you want to challenge it until your computer blows up or is hit by a moving bus then this games is defiantly for you. At first you will be constantly hitting walls and "wiping out" continually until your skill sharpens and you begin to master the unique ways of this very stylish racer.

But as time goes on you will be racing in a different world as you try and come out on top in this futuristically set warped game world. Weapons, pickups and power boosts play an awesome role in this game and make it much more than just a racer. You will probably want to get out your joystick of game pad for this one for better control but if you don’t have one a keyboard can be used. There used to be a lot of games around like wipeout this is one of my favourite genres.
Unfortunately today the only thing that comes close is Mario kart but though incredibly fun its just not as fast paced as games like Wipeout and Extreme G which

are all but instinct these days sigh.
Well anyways Wipeout is a great game it is wasn't entirely original it was defiantly unique and I like it.

Game Review 2 (written by Zeegs6800) Added on: 08/30/2006
Wipeout. This had to be my favorite futuristic racer of all time. From the style of the tracks, the types of vehicles, to the music in this game is unforgettable. The game is divided into classes. The higher the class, the faster the races are. The tracks are over the top ranging from a volcano to a densely covered forest filled with jumps and many hidden places. Did I mention this game has a lot of modes to play in to add replayability. Weapons are also used in this game. For amateurs, I suggest you always try to find the autopilot weapon.

The music in this game is a mix of techno with a touch of light rock n roll. That may sound kind of mind-numbing but I assure you, you will hum those songs in your head for years to come after you play this game. The music definitely fits this type of game. Names like The Chemical Brothers and The Prodigy really set this game in motion.

As far as the vehicles are concerned, you have you basic array of ships to choose from. There are all possible types of ships, the slow but easy to manoeuvre type, and lastly (once you gain enough medals) the speed demon without any cornering skills. Recommended for pros only of course. Some times the pace of the game will throw you off and from time to time there is a "little" slowdown.

The graphics in this game are close to flawless. The weapons light up the screen when used, the tracks themselves seem to be breathing with futuristic life. The ships all have their own distinct look and feel. Even when your shields are low you can even see a little bit of battle damage.

The modes of play are all challenging. The grand prix, versus, time trial and of course, practice mode. The challenge in Wipeout XL would be from medium to hard. Due to the speed and the fact that no race is exactly the same.

Overall, Wipeout is the King of all games you could probably find in this genre. Even though the fun factor in this game could be better, the thrill of winning a new medal or destroying the other racers will keep you coming back for more. It's a difficult but satisfying game that everybody should try. Especially the hardcore gamers. Unfortunately this game is no longer being sold. But you can purchase the newer versions for psp or ps2 ;-)
