Game Review (written by Chrissi) Added on: 11/17/2007
World Championship Boxing Manager is a manager simulation game. You will be playing as a boxing manager where you are able to manage a maximum of four different fighters at the same time. You will be arranging matches, scheduling their training and take care of any of the injuries your boxers may get.
At the beginning of the game you will be selecting your fighters that you want to manage. Once you have selected your fighters you will be able to give them a nickname that they will go by. Then you will be creating their contract promising them a certain rank each year. Each fighter that you have available to select from are just starting out so most of them will have a few weaknesses that may be their downfall. As the manager you will have to notice these flaws and attempt to improve them in those areas. You will decide how you want to train and what they will be training on such as the punching bags, jump ropes or weights. Each selection you make will improve the boxer in different areas. Training on the weights will increase their strength, but it can also decrease their speed. You will have to learn to compromise and train your boxers well.
You will not only be training your boxers, you will also be finding them good opponents to fight and get their rep up in the boxing world. You will have a selection of different agents that hire boxers and find out which boxers would like to fight one of your boxers. You will have to come to an agreement about when the fight will take place giving you the time to change your boxers training to be specific with their opponents. These will be your day-to-day tasks and when you are done you will continue on to the next day. Friday’s are the day that the fights take place. You will be able to go and watch any fights that take place and if you are not enjoying the fight you are able to skip to the bar instead. The fights are only shown for an extra feature, there isn’t actually any action.
The graphics in this game have been done with a lot of time and care. There is a lot of life like interactive parts that make the graphics sky rocket in appeal. The amount of detail that has been put into the game surely does make it even more enjoyable. With this simulation being based on boxers you would expect a little more action. The game is mostly based on the managerial aspect instead of the actual fighting. To complete the game you will have to get your boxers to be considered the best. It will take some time to do, but in the end it is a great experience. It could take at least fifteen to twenty fights to get your fighters to the top, but it is like that in real life as well.
World Championship Boxing Manager is well-developed game that most people would enjoy trying out. If you do enjoy a manager type simulation game you would love to attempt this one. It isn’t too difficult to play and has a lot of aspects that will keep you playing. You will soon find yourself playing this game like a pro because it is so addicting and well put together.
