World Class Rugby was released at the same time as the 1991 World Cup Tournament and features the same 16 teams that were in the actual tournament. The game really does adhere to the real rulesof rugby and has some special features that make it a great game for rugby fans even today. I can’t think of a single bad point to the game no matter what year you are playing it in.
You have the option to play against the computer or with another person, you can play the 16 team event or individual friendly matches or an 8 team league.
I like this game because it is so super customizable with so many options , you can set the difficulty level you wish to play, the length of time you want for the game, variable pitch conditions, change the line-up and use real player's statistics. If that wasn’t enough you can even choose to change the color of your team’s shirts or play on a snowy field. Sometimes I like to turn off the official rules and play a faster paced, rough game; you can turn some of them off but unfortunately not all.
World Class Rugby has very good detailed graphics and the gameplay is smooth, the whole game is easy to control. You have a kick-o meter to control
the speed, strength and direction of the kick and you also get a nice little radar screen to show the positions of the players on the field and you get to watch a replay of the action whenever you want to. The sound effects are pretty good as well with music, crowds cheering and booing.
Although rugby isn’t a very popular game in the US I learned a great deal about it while playing World Class Rugby and actually became somewhat of a rugby fan from then on. I can say with no doubts that even if you like rugby or don’t know much about it World Class Rugby is an excellent high action sports game worth playing.
