Game Review (written by Shannon) Added on: 04/09/2008
In the world of modern gaming it is difficult to find a gamer who is unfamiliar with the strategy and//or puzzle game called Tetris. It has become a classic play that is available on every format of gaming from the ancient console games to modern cellular phones and hand held machines. To stay fresh and at the forefront of the gaming world, Tetris has continued to evolve since its introduction to the gaming world. There are likely more Tetris clones, add-ons and knock offs of Tetris than virtually any other puzzle game.
The dimensions have changed, themes have changed, scoring rules have been altered, blocks have been adjusted, and goals have been added.

This particular version, Acid Tetris,

is a version of Tetris that closely follows the outline of the original game as it was intended. What has changed the most in Acid Tetris is theme, as opposed to the style of play. This is a freeware offering that can be considered a Tetris clone because of its similarities. It was programmed specifically for play on the personal computer using the DOS operating system, and was released in the late nineties. Dungeon Dwellers Design assumes responsibility for this little number.

The game derives its title, Acid Tetris, from the psychedelic theme that it utilizes. The overall goal of the game is the same as the classic game. Falling blocks, still in the same classic shapes (each one bearing four simple blocks forming different shapes, modeled after letters of the alphabet). The colors of the blocks have been made much more vivid and bright, making the board take on the appearance of a tie-dyed, stereotypical sixties T-shirt. Like the original game, the goal is to organize the falling blocks so that there are as few open spaces as possible on board. When a complete horizontal line is created, that row of blocks is removed from play. Whenever a line is removed in Acid Tetris, the goofy big yellow smiley face that has become as much a symbol of hippies as the peace sign will appear. He will make different faces and comments based on how cool the row was. A two row completion will garner more sound effects and accolades than a single row. A tetris (four row removal) really gets him excited and also scores the user big points.

For anyone looking for a good game of Tetris with a little twist, Acid Tetris may be a good choice. The game play is classic, and the trippy graphics make the game fresh and totally rad, dude.

As a score of 7 out of 10, Acid Tetris is a fun, entertaining, but not a long term enticing game.
