First there was checkers. Then there was chess. Then with the creation of the 8 bit Nintendo came ARCHON a battle for territories on a siple chess board where skill with a paddle and simple strategy concepts were your ally. After which was realeases Archon ultra. A continuation of the original Epic battle game.
I really liked the better graphics and sound of this newer version, but I enjoyed even more the simplicity of the original NES version. It was very satisfying using a sword pawn guy and being able to take out a golem or maybe even a dragon.

I really liked the better graphics and sound of this newer version, but I enjoyed even more the simplicity of the original NES version. It was very satisfying using a sword pawn guy and being able to take out a golem or maybe even a dragon. Even when you played two player the game mechanics favored the light handed person with very simple controls. The headstones and other obstacles
bobbing up and down were great also making each battle different. But this newer version took some away while trying to just be newer. It felt to me like it did when I played different versions of Sid Meiers Civilzation. There weren't any really newly innovative concepts, and the original still offered the same if not better gameplay. In fact I enjoyed playing the older ones on older machines instead of needing win 98 or xp. It seems that limits in hardware definitely impact the simplicity and playability of certain games.
