Assault trooper is a great strategy game that keeps you thinking all throughout. I first played this game about two years ago and I really enjoyed and ended up playing for about an hour and a half. The graphics remind me of an old arcade game and the game does have an arcade feel to it. The storyline is really cool in that the mission format is similar to other, larger action/war games for other platforms.
The angle at which you watch your player can sometimes be an issue with entering buildings and such, but the strategy of the game more than makes up for that.
What I really like about the game play is that your decisions within the missions affect the future of your game, which is kind of funny in that the game’s graphics are so dated, yet the game is relatively advanced. The action of the game actually reminds me of the movie Commando or Predator in that some missions take place in jungle-like settings and your character must storm buildings and destroy different enemy installations. The weapons used in the game are sometimes limited, but like I said before, the strategy makes up for that shortfall.
The red targeting reticule is an interesting addition, and when I first played it, I thought it was useful and that games of the same design should use
that as well, in other words it was very user friendly. I would definitely recommend this game to other gamers on the net for various reasons. It’s very entertaining and keeps the gamers attention throughout combat. It has a sort of “throwback” feel to it, which adds to the wow factor that lacks in the graphics department. It is a user friendly game which doesn’t require complicated memorization of controls for play, jus get on and shoot (so to speak).
All in all, I have played this game for a while and I am very satisfied with its simplicity and level of difficultly as well, in addition to its entertainment value that I think many gamers will and do appreciate. My grade for this game: B+, because the graphics take a hit, but the strategy and difficult make up for it.
