Game Review (written by Berbeastblub) Added on: 08/14/2007
Do you crave casino action but don't have enough cash for a trip? Or maybe you don't think you can pass through security because you haven't started shaving yet? Well, Beat the House is here to help. It has everything you'd find in a real casino, except for the stale smell of old cigarettes and the drunken retirees pumping their fixed income into one-arm bandits. And nobody really misses those, do they?
In a nutshell, Beat the House provides you with several classic casino games: Blackjack, various slots, video poker, craps, roulette, etc. You can play for a wide variety of stakes, and as the name of the game indicates, your ultimate goal is to win enough money to put the place out of business. Each game has a detailed tutorial accompanying it. It provides everything from the basics, for beginners, to advanced strategies for veteran players. With patience and a little luck, you can watch your bankroll grow. As you gain skill and the funds, you can wager increasing amounts in order to finally bring that house down.
What about the nuts and bolts of the game? Well, for something that's about a decade old, the backgrounds and tables are nicely detailed and vivid. It is a nice bit of eye candy. The sound and music is good. The interface is easy to navigate. With the tutorial system in place, this game compares favourably against other casino simulation type games I've seen. Of course, the best option would be a "cash out" button.
Back when I first played this game, I never had the patience to slowly build up my money. I'd just throw it all on one or two bets and bust out. But if you want some practice and tutoring before you wager real money, this game is worth download. It’s a fantastic and excitable game! Overall, I give this game 10/10!
