Game Review (written by Eric) Added on: 02/08/2008
Black Moon Chronicles is a strategy game with a fantasy theme released in the 90s. It was based on a graphic novel by Francois Marcela - Froideval. The original novel was entitled “Croniques de la Luna Noire”, French for Black Moon Chronicles.
You will play the role of half-elf Wismerhill and choose between the following modes: Skirmish or campaign. If you choose to play the skirmish, you will be going on single random battles. It is the perfect mode for those who are just starting with the game or are just beginning to play strategy games because it will serve as the tutorial mode. The Skirmish is also perfect if you want to play the game and do not have too much time on your hands.
In the campaign mode you will start as a strong character but you will become even stronger when you gain experience in combat. There will come to a point in the game when you will have to choose what faction to join. There are four factions and these are: The Empire, The Order of Justice, The Knights of Light and The Army of the Black Moon. Each group has its own strengths and weaknesses so you must choose a faction whose attributes will work well with your strategy in the game.
The game has beautiful graphics and good sounds. The game really brings life to the characters in the graphic novel.
The game play is similar to other fantasy role playing games but because the game was based on a graphic novel, the storyline is superb and engaging. The story line is linear, you need to complete a mission before you can proceed to the next. There will be certain situations in the game where you will be given a choice but even the results of these choices are predetermined.
The game focuses more on the battles and only a fraction of the game involves micro-management. You should focus on deploying the right number of troops to the correct location so that you can beat out the troops of the other factions. The game really focuses on battle strategy and the only micro-management you will be engaged in is managing your finances.
You will earn money from missions that you have completed and you must decide how to allocate these funds. You can purchase troops to make your faction stronger. You can also use the money to try to develop new magic spells.
Overall this is an enjoyable game that is worth downloading.
