Capture the Flag by Carr Software came out in 1993. We all should remember the game we played as kids (either in gym class or with the neighborhood kids) that was almost like football, but it had two different color flags (one color for each team). We had one major goal; to get the other teams flag before they got yours. Carr Software decided to make this into a computer game that is still popular today (for those who actually liked the game).
You have the same goal, but you do not have to run around and realize how out of shape you are. Let’s face it, how many of us are willing to call all our friends up and ask them to play capture the flag at our age and risk getting laughed at like you have finally lost your marbles? Besides, it could be winter time and it is just too cold or maybe we just do not want to embarrass ourselves.
The computer version of this game is a pretty simple game to figure out and it can be played in either single player or two player modes. The main goal of the game is the same as the
outdoor game we played as kids, get the other teams flag from their base and bring it back to your base. The catch, it is not going to be that easy as they also have guards around the flag and other team members making sure you do not access their flag. In some versions of the game, there is a “jail” area in which a player must sit in it for a certain amount of time (either pre-determined or an untagged team member runs through the jail area) if they get tagged. Your team is either the blue team or the red team.
The names of the players that the designers came up with are pretty basic, like Ken, Abe, and Carl. They did have a system for this though. The names are in accordance with how good they are in the game. For example, Abe is the best player for the red team because his name starts with the letter “A”. You should not pick your players for your team based on whether or not you like the name. Each member that they have listed is good at different things in the game. Some are better at guarding the flag than running after it, so they would not be a good choice for use on the field and vice versa. The game is a good classic for those who like to sit back and remember the good old days of playing capture the flag.
