Game Review (written by Chrissi) Added on: 11/23/2007
Castles is a great building simulation game. The aspect of the game is pretty straightforward; you will be building a castle and then defending it against the Celts. The game is based in the middle Ages.
Castles can be tons of fun when it comes to designing your own castle. There are a large variety of building parts to allow you to customize your castle in your own shape and form. You will have a selection of walls, gates, towers, and many more features to give it your own feel.
While building your castle you will also be answering multiple-choice questions that will affect your popularity with the Church, the nobles, and the peasants. During the game you must continue to build on your military keeping them strong and have a huge workforce, but keep an eye on your treasury so you don’t run broke.
Castles can be quite simple in many aspects of game play. This ranges from the building of your castle to defending your lands. Once you figure out what is better to complete first the game will become quite simple. You will also be able to decide if you want to play a game using realistic settings or magical settings, both just as much fun as the other. Castles can also be a very long game when playing. It is best to build up an army as fast as possible, because later in the game when your trying to catch up the Celts will be coming in with more and more soldiers than you could imagine. Each and every battle does take place on your land. During the battles you will watch all the animated armies in combat, which is pretty much the extent of what you can do.
The game does have 256 colors VGA graphics, which do fit the design and game, play quite well. There is some added detail in this game that does make it a great game visual just as much as the game play. There is music as well that does have great soundboard support. There are also three levels of difficulty, which go from easy to challenging. Every level being a little more difficult then the previous, but not too difficult that you won’t enjoy them.
Castles is a very enjoyable game for many players. With the ability to build up a castle and an army while answering each multiple choice questions this game could not get too difficult to enjoy. Even though the game can be quite long, you will find yourself loving every moment of it with the intense battles and the unexpectedness that happens throughout the entire game. Castles is by far a great game!
