Dinopark Tycoon is, after twelve years, still one of my favorite games. I remember being six years old at my mother's best friend's house and her daughter was playing it. From the moment I saw the graphics (which, by the way, are pretty good considering how long ago it was actually made) I loved it. It's a great game for Jurassic Park lovers. But, even if you're not into Dinosaurs, the background theme of the game is still strategy. It isn't just buying a dinosaur.
It's actually being able to manage a "business" of a sort.
Before your dinosaur is even purchased the game will take you through the setup of your park. First, you'll buy the type of land you want. Plains
are the most expensive, but it also is the right land for the best and most attractive dinosaurs. If you choose desert, you'll end up with much smaller dinosaurs, but, the smaller the dinosaur, the less food you'll have to buy, therefore, the less money you'll be constantly spending. After you buy the land, you'll be buying the actual dinosaurs. (Remember what kind of land you bought as that will dictate what kind of dinosaur you should buy. You can buy dinosaurs from other land types, but they'll inevitably be less happy and satisfied with their environment; then, they'll run away and, in the process, they'll destroy your fence causing you to lose money. And, if they don't just run away, they'll get sick, meaning you'll have to hire more vets to keep them healthy which will cost a ridiculous amount of money compared to just buying the right kind of dinosaur for the land you originally bought.
Just as the land will dictate what type of dinosaur you should buy, the type of dinosaur you buy will mandate the amount and type of food you'll have to buy it. Then, you'll be taken to the "employment agency" where you'll be hiring workers for the park. Initially, you should be hiring a tour guide and a maintenance guy. People don't want to be wandering around aimlessly, just as they don't want enraged dinosaurs running around because the fences we’re never fixed. You'll want to buy a parking lot as soon as you have to money, too.
All in all, this game is complex and educational, yet still pretty simple to grasp. It's a great classic that will remain one of my favorites!
