Game Review (written by Helloworld123) Added on: 12/22/2006
Dopewars can be a fun little game. It is basically a buy low sell/high game. You move around neighbors and have a buy and sell price for various drugs. You then sell when the price is high or buy if the price is low.
There are different levels of drugs that you can buy and sell. When you start out, you have very limited funds. This means you are pretty much stuck selling cheaper drugs like marijuana. As you gain more and more bank, you start moving up in the types of drugs you can sell (acid, amphetamines, hash, etc. , etc.) Once you get a really large bank, you can start selling cocaine. Cocaine is the big money drug.
Every once in a while an event will occur. There may be a glut of a particular drug and you can buy at a very low price. Then if you can get lucky, in one of the next neighborhoods of the city there may be a shortage. A shortage causes the price to skyrocket. Sell all you have and you will make a great profit. If you have a nice bank and find a glut of cocaine and then a shortage, you will really clean up. This is the trick to making a lot of money. Build your bank, get into coke and find the gluts and shortages.
To find the gluts and shortages, you simply move around to different neighborhoods. As you move, you will get a feel for the average prices of particular drugs. Buy lower and sell higher, but the real money is in gluts and shortages.
The cops will chase you as well. You have two choices if the cops try to get you, you can run or fight. If you choose to fight, you need to have purchased a gun. In different neighborhoods, you will have the option to purchase a gun. If you do buy the gun, you can fight the cops.
You choose the city that you want to deal in. The neighborhoods are true to the city. So, you at least learn the names of the neighborhoods of a city by simply playing the game.
Personally, I find it better to run. First, guns cost money and the object of the game is to acquire money. Second, the cops shoot back. They may kill or injure you. If they injure you then that costs money too. So, fighting is basically a big waste of money. You are better off running. Most times you get away.
It gets boring after a while, but it is a nice casual little game to kill a couple of hours.
