Game Review (written by Eric) Added on: 01/03/2008
The game Dracula: Reign or Terror, also known as Vlad Tepes Dracula is an empire management game that was released in 1997. It is not a game with a dark theme as the Dracula in the game is not a vampire but a Count.
The game is set in medieval times and is about the Count Vlad Dracula who inspired the vampire tale of Bram Stoker. As Count Dracula you are to manage your entire empire and your army against the Turks. The Turkish army is set to invade Valachy, Transylvania, the Count’s homeland. The goal is to take control of the homeland and rebuild it.
The game involves managing your troops in the map to recapture the 13 counties of Valachy. You are also in charge of developing your troops and manage the counties that you are able to gain control of. The game involves tactical battles using different weapons such as canons and catapults. You can also utilize the different skill of your troops such as knights, swordsmen and others.
There are other strategy games that offer better depth and experience than Dracula Reign of Terror. Other games for example have more realistic economic models and follow more interesting social and political principles. You still have to manage the produce of the counties you have control over so that you have enough resources to support your missions but they are not as sophisticated as say, that of Warcraft and the other strategy or role playing games. Dracula actually lacks depth and is a very simplistic tactical game. The better part of the game involves combat so the game is unable to provide deeper challenges to the gamer. There is no high level of micro-management on the towns or even an intense need for strategies in the battle. The game is really a very simple and straight forward strategy game.
There are far more interesting games with more solid game play that can provide you with an exciting time but I still recommend that you download this game to experience an enjoyable and simple strategy game. The graphics and the game play could use some improvement but it’s still a game that is worth trying if only to experience the original story line and plot of the game.
This game can be perfect for those who are just starting to get into role playing or strategy games. For the more experienced gamers, it’s still worth trying just so you can get your fill of a classic strategy game

Stefan (09/28/2006) Well its a nice game that should be tryed. It tends to get repetitive and it is not very hisoracly accurate. ex: the towns are not as in the medival Romania because for ex. Tiargoviste is not just a fort its an entire city. There are 2 types of infantry(crossbow and swordsmen) , a cavalary unit and the battering ram, catapult, cannon and spies. There are some events that can ocur for ex. youre men can find hidden catapults or die of some disease. The otoman turks are a very annoyng factor because they have a kinda dumb AI because they can only attack in about 3 ways so after a game or two you get to larn they're ways.im from Romania and the thing is the game doesent have almost nothing related to those times the most biggest asimilation betwen the games and history is maybe the war. There is a unworked intro movie. But hey the game is good in its own way. For ex. there are a lot of ways that you can build forts and towers to help you win. The idea is almost like the same with Rome Total War. It's a nice medium strategy game not easy nor hard good for beginners in the certain genre. HINT: May have problems with the loading of a saved game. First go to the save file in the game directoy and delete the RAZOR save file that may cause problems. |
